Arshiya was born on 4th March, 1993 in Punjab, India. Right from childhood, she was a bright student and always fascinated by technology, computers and gadgets. Arshiya came to the United States in August 2017, to pursue her lifelong dream of getting a Masters Degree in Software Engineering from San Jose State University. She was a fighter, Despite having to face the tragic news of her fathers death in July 2018, Arshiya fought on and not only did she complete her Masters program, but also landed herself an amazing job as a Software Engineer at Amazon, before succumbing to the same illness which took away her father.
She was a great daughter, sister, and an amazing friend. She had so much more to give, to teach, to share to the world. She will always be remembered for her warmth and generosity, her commitment to humanity as a group and as individuals, her brilliance and unflagging optimism, and her great big heart. She set an example of courage and compassion that inspired everyone who knew her. God Speed, Arshiya – Heaven only knows what’s in store for you next! |

A note from John & Carol
Founders of Kontagious
We met Arshiya in 2018 as a second-year graduate student who came to our home for dinner. She captured our heart, by her smile, simple lifestyle, and her deep knowledge in software engineering. She was always fun to be around among the group of students as well as part of the Kontagious family volunteer team.
She was a committed volunteer of Kontagious and appreciative of our efforts among the San Jose State university students. During the 2018 Kontagious Christmas program she single handedly developed the barcode concept for the program that changed the way we collected data from our participants. Her passion for excellence and commitment for growth was always her inspiration. We got to laugh with her and she leaves us with memories of her lifestyle, and her fun approach to life situations.
We talked with her last on the precious evening before her trip to India. She wanted us to know that she is thankful for our offer to take her to the San Francisco airport and arrange a ride with her friends. We had invited her for the Christmas dinner and she wanted us to know that she will be there for 2020 Christmas. But …She was always proud of her early childhood studies at the Assumption Convent school and had fond memories of the Christmas carols and the music she learned as a young girl. She knew many of the Christmas carols and enjoyed singing.
We picked her up for the student’s dinner after her late work hours at IBM, but she was always thankful for the friendship and the family, which she missed by losing both her parents. She was always the center of the party and we are going to miss her, her smile and her compassion.
Arshiya!
When I try to make it make sense in my mind
The only conclusion I come to
Is that Heaven was needing a hero like you
